The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Balloo lived a long and happy life, he died at the age of 13 of cancer with me at his side. He was a great dog, he never missed a carpool ride, loved spaghetti and thought he was one of my human children, he was my once in a life time dog, there will never be another one like him.

Bob was my son’s cat who left the house one morning and never returned. Bob was more like a dog than a cat, he never met a stranger and no lap was off limits.

Oliver came to our property in the winter of 2005, it wasn’t until June that he let us touch him. Oliver “picked” us as his family. We tried to convince Oliver to be an indoor only cat but he enjoyed being outside. He was hit by a car while chasing another cat. We  buried them together in a sunny spot of our yard near some peace lilies that bloom every year.

King didn’t belong to us but in the month and half we knew him, he became a friend and part of my family. He had a loving heart and loved attention, we couldn’t type on the computer with King around, he’d push his long nose between our arm and keyboard and insist on getting petted! King passed on at the age of 14 with dignity and grace.  We wish we could have known him longer.

It makes me less sad to think of a place called The Rainbow Bridge…….
